About Sea & Color

A Fusion of Art and Design:

Lauren is not a conventional artist. She has a background in architecture and product development and infuses her art with a unique perspective, Lauren is inspired by sea glass treasures she collected along the shores of Okinawa. She started painting them as a way to unwind and discovered a whole new passion. She finds a sense of calm in the act of putting watercolor to paper and capturing the detail and essence of each piece and hopes that others will share the same feeling through her work.

Artist’s Statement:

Drawing inspiration from the serene shores and the transformative journey of sea glass, my art is an ode to the quiet stories whispered by the ocean. I strive to capture not just the aesthetic of these oceanic fragments but their intrinsic narratives of change and resilience. My pieces invite viewers to delve into an introspective dialogue, to find solace in the minimalistic expressions of blue and green hues that echo the tranquility of the sea.

Each painting begins with a careful selection of sea glass, chosen for its distinctive texture, character, or hue—attributes that hint at its secret past. Through a dance of light and placement, I compose each piece to celebrate its unique journey from discarded shard to treasured gem. My process is an intimate exploration of these weathered relics, building up layers of watercolor in a glazing technique that requires a meditative patience, allowing the paint to reveal its own path, much like the sea that shapes its subjects.

While my work does not consciously align with specific movements or artists, it is driven by the ebb and flow of my own emotions and the subtle interplay between control and surrender to the medium's fluidity. It is my hope that in the calmness of my art, viewers find a momentary haven—a space to breathe and to ponder the beautiful cycle of transformation that connects us all.

In contributing to the broader art narrative, my work offers a pause, a visual respite from the complexities of life. It is an invitation to embrace the serene simplicity of coastal living and to acknowledge the profound beauty in the objects time and nature have cast aside, but which still tell a compelling story.
